Behind The Beats echoes the harmony between music and watchmaking, celebrating both creativity and craftsmanship behind the scenes. The project sparked from a collaborative effort between Audemars Piguet and Delf, a Hong Kong music producer and sound artist based out of New York, earlier this year bringing together multicultural talents from across Asia.

Artists Majin, Derek Dali, Bohan Phoenix and Ziyi Wang worked with the producer to create three original soundtracks, which were premiered at the brand’s AP x Music 2024 event in Tai Kwun on September 27.

The initiative challenged selected artists to dive deep into the roots of co-creation and self-expression through the limitless language of music. A trio of releases came together under OFFSHORE, the collaborative EP album produced by Delf, showcasing the diverse sounds of artists Majin, Derek Dali, Bohan Phoenix and Ziyi Wang. The tracks also reflect the artists’  shared visions and values.

It was during a transformative visit to Le Brassus in the Swiss Jura, the birthplace of Audemars Piguet, that Delf discovered the rhythm for Behind The Beats. His encounters and interactions with the serene nature and tradition-rich environment were the sparks for his subsequent collaborations.

Authenticity in music is like improvisation for Delf. He sees himself as a conduit for ideas, informed by his perspective but open to broader influences. His approach to music reflects a collaborative jam session, where both the artist’s intention and the listener’s interpretation shape the final experience, with no single "right" way to listen to it.

Working together with artists Majin, Derek Dali, Bohan Phoenix and Ziyi Wang, Delf explored new musical territories. Ziyi Wang refined his skills as a singer and songwriter, while Bohan Phoenix’s insights resonated with his focus on life's subtleties. Delf’s journey, inspired by his father’s vinyl collection and experiences in fashion, teaching, and living in Hong Kong, the U.S.A. and Asia, has gifted him with a unique ear for blending cultural rhythms. His work reflects the fusion of analogue warmth and digital precision, highlighting the power of collaboration and cultural exchange.

Collaboration and nature inspire my music profoundly. Every interaction, every sound, and every environment contributes to the creation process, helping me translate the essence of these experiences into my work. True originality comes from embracing this fluidity and letting the universe guide you.
